To obtain protection and recognition for your brand in the Republic of Congo, your trademark must be registered through OAPI (African Intellectual Property Organization). There is no separate national trademark registration in this country for standard filings.
When you file a trademark with OAPI (Organisation Africaine de la Propriété Intellectuelle), a single registration grants protection in all 17 member states, including the Republic of Congo, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal and Togo.
OAPI is also a member of the Madrid Protocol, so protection in the Republic of Congo can be obtained either through a direct OAPI filing or via extension of an international registration through the Madrid System.
