To obtain trademark protection in Equatorial Guinea, the mark must be registered through OAPI (Organisation Africaine de la Propriété Intellectuelle). There is no separate national registration; one OAPI trademark grants protection in all 17 member states, including Equatorial Guinea.
A trademark filed and registered with OAPI protects you not only in Equatorial Guinea, but also in: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal and Togo.
If you file a combined trademark (word + logo) via OAPI, your exclusive rights are limited to the exact configuration registered. To protect the word and the logo separately, it is advisable to file separate applications for each element.
