Switzerland Trademark Renewal

Trademark protection in Switzerland is valid for 10 years from the application date and is renewable indefinitely in 10-year increments.

• Renewal window: 12 months before expiration
• Grace period: 6 months after expiration
• After grace period: The trademark automatically lapses and is deleted from the register

• No Power of Attorney is required
• Simply file a renewal request and pay the official renewal fee
• No publication of renewals is made
• Renewal is valid from the original expiry date, not the date of payment

• Restoration is not allowed
• A lapsed trademark may be re-registered by a third party at any time

• The IPI typically sends a renewal notice 3 months before expiration, but this is not guaranteed
• You must track your own deadlines to avoid lapse
