Trademark rights in Sri Lanka are governed by the Intellectual Property Act No. 36 of 2003, administered by the National Intellectual Property Office (NIPO) in Colombo. Sri Lanka is not a member of the Madrid Protocol, so renewals must be filed directly with the national office.
Trademark registrations in Sri Lanka are valid for 10 years from the filing date and can be renewed indefinitely in 10-year periods.
