Trademark protection in Puerto Rico is governed by the Puerto Rico Trademark Act, first enacted in 1992 and amended by Act 124-2011. While Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, it maintains its own independent trademark registration system. Federal U.S. registrations do not automatically extend to Puerto Rico and vice versa. Trademark matters are administered by the Puerto Rico Trademark and Trade Name Registry.
A trademark registered in Puerto Rico is valid for 10 years from the application filing date and can be renewed indefinitely in 10-year periods.
Renewals are not published.
