Papua New Guinea Trademark Renewal

Trademarks are valid for 10 years from the filing date and can be renewed indefinitely for additional 10-year periods.

• Standard renewal window: Starts 6 months before expiration
• Grace period: 12 months after the expiration date. Penalty fees apply but are determined per case.
• After grace period: The trademark lapses and may only be restored by application with conditions.

• Completion of Form 6
• Submission by email to: IPOLodgements@ipa.gov.pg
• Payment of renewal and penalty fees
• No Power of Attorney is required

• Lapsed trademarks can be restored within 12 months from expiration
• Restoration is subject to Registrar discretion and may involve additional conditions or limitations
• Re-registration by third parties is restricted for 12 months after expiry unless specific criteria are met

• The registry sends a notice to the registered proprietor upon expiration
