Trademark protection in the 17 member states of the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI) is governed by the Bangui Agreement (as revised in Bamako in 2015). OAPI provides a centralized registration system; there are no national filings in member countries.
OAPI includes: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo (Brazzaville), Côte d'Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, and Togo.
A trademark registered through OAPI is valid for 10 years from the filing date and is renewable every 10 years indefinitely.
Renewals are processed and published in the OAPI Official Bulletin.
