Ghana Trademark Renewal

A trademark registration in Ghana is valid for 10 years from the date of application. It can be renewed indefinitely for additional 10-year terms.

The renewal schedule in Ghana is:

• 3 months before expiration: You can file the renewal.
• 6-month grace period after expiration: Renewal is still permitted, but you must pay a surcharge.
• After the grace period: The trademark is considered lapsed but may be restored by paying an additional fee.

To renew a trademark in Ghana, submit the following:

• A Power of Attorney, simply signed
• The trademark registration number
• Payment of the renewal fee
• Surcharge, if within the grace period

Note: No publication of renewal is required.

• You may renew late within the 6-month grace period.
• After the grace period, restoration is possible by paying both the renewal and restoration fee.
• A lapsed trademark may be re-registered by third parties only if it has been struck off for non-use after 5 years or if it remains lapsed.
