Trademark rights in the Netherlands are governed under the Benelux Convention on Intellectual Property, administered by the Benelux Office for Intellectual Property (BOIP). There is no longer a national trademark law in the Netherlands; renewals are done through the unified Benelux system, which covers Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg.
Trademarks registered in the Benelux region are valid for 10 years from the application date, and can be renewed indefinitely in 10-year periods.
Avoid:
You may still renew during the 6-month grace period by paying an extra fee. If you miss that window, your trademark lapses and cannot be restored.
No. Restoration is not permitted in the Benelux system.
No. Proof of use is not required for renewal in the Netherlands/Benelux.
Submit updates directly to BOIP to keep your records current and avoid issues with notifications.
